Are You Willing?
S. O. A. P.
Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Luke 13:34
Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing.
O-bservation:
These are the words of Jesus from Matthew 23:37, referenced by Luke. Jesus was leaving the temple for the final time, and deep sorrow was in Him. This great city of Jerusalem was the one God had deemed the crown of His chosen people. Yet through the ages, the city had housed men who continually turned their backs on God. Jesus said, “I would have gathered you together like a mother hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were unwilling.”
A-pplication:
This is the heart of God for all of His people. Whatever the tribe, creed, or belief, we are ALL made in the image of the Almighty. At that time, God gave special love and attention to His people, the Israelites. And this small group of people was just like us: prone to wander. When Jesus came and laid down His life, it gave all of us the same attention the Jewish people had always had. Now everyone is beckoned into the fold by God through His son Jesus. Yet then and now, there is a pushing away from Jesus by so many. There is so much to gain and so much to lose in this one choice we’ve been given to follow Christ. By rejecting Him, we say, “I want an eternity separated from everlasting life.” By accepting Him, we say, “I will follow Him into heaven.” There’s only one question that remains when asked by the Lord to follow Jesus. “Are You Willing?”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
I have one response to that last question this AM: “I Am Willing!” Amen
