A Very Messy Church Service

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

2 Chronicles 5:6

And King Solomon and the entire assembly of Israel that had gathered about him were before the ark, sacrificing so many sheep and cattle that they could not be recorded or counted.

O-bservation:

This is the account of King Solomon and the people of Israel walking into the new Temple that had taken Solomon seven years to build. The Ark of the Lord had preceded them, and upon their entrance to the Temple, the offerings of sacrifice unto the Lord began. The scripture says they offered so many sheep and cattle at the entrance to the Temple, that the sacrifices became too numerous to count! It was all led by the king.

A-pplication:

Whenever I read this passage, I always think this must have been, “A Very Messy Church Service.” Think about it. We live in such contemporary and hygienic times here in the West that the thought of animal sacrifice with blood gushing at the door of the Church House would be cause for PETA to be called immediately, and the police next! But our Christian roots are found in Judaism, and historically animal sacrifices atoned for a person’s sins. Thank God for Jesus! When Jesus was crucified, it called for an end to animal sacrifices from God Himself. It ended bloody and messy church services but called upon all of us to remember the mess Jesus endured on our behalf. The more we remember the mess Jesus endured for us, the less mess we’ll continue to make for ourselves.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

Once again, I pause on this wonderful AM to say thank You for enduring the mess and suffering of Calvary. Thank You for helping me get my mess cleaned up. Amen
