A Real Twister
S. O. A. P.
Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Hosea 8:7a
They sow the wind and reap the whirlwind.
O-bservation:
Israel had forsaken their God on so many occasions that the judgment of the Lord was now coming on them. Instead of worshipping the Lord God Jehovah, they had made false gods out of their gold and silver like other nations. Now, through His prophet Hosea, the Lord said, “They have sowed the wind and will now reap the whirlwind.”
A-pplication:
Wind in this passage is a metaphor for sowing into something that lacks anything of real substance. It’s wasted planting. It also speaks of a whirlwind, and in this case, the whirlwind harvest is a destructive wind something like a tornado or hurricane. One of the results of the harvest is that you reap more than you sow. In this case, Israel was sowing into nothing but disobedience to their true God by building false idols and then worshipping them. If we reap more than we sow, then a wind turns into a “Cat 5 Hurricane” whirlwind! It’s devastating. Israel was destroyed because of her continual destructive sowing. Today, you and I are all about following King Jesus. Never let it be said of us that we sowed to the wind. The only thing that comes of it is “A Real Twister!”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
This AM, I want my sowing to count for eternity in a positive way. Help me sow into Your good soil and not into some crazy wind. Amen
