Even If It Kills Me

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Revelation 12:11b They did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.

O-bservation:

John the Beloved saw in his vision a group of Warriors who rejoiced when Satan was cast down out of heaven. They were so committed to Jesus that they lived with a mentality that said, "Even If It Kills Me, I'll follow Jesus."

A-pplication:

I don't see this kind of commitment in my country very much. I see young people who really want to have FUN praising Jesus and hanging out. But to say, "I'll follow Jesus Even If It Kills Me." I don't see much of that. What has happened? I'd say "Too Much" has happened. Too much free time. Too much ease. Too much live and let live. Too much me, myself, and I. Too much in the way of options. It's just Too Much. And when this is a way of life, the idea of dying for any cause is met with massive rejection. It's understandable when elders don't teach that kind of commitment. It's also understandable when Jesus is made to be one of many ways to God. But let me say, I remember confessing as a young man, "Jesus I'll follow You Even If It Kills Me." I haven't changed.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, I'm with You 100%! Even If It Kills Me! Amen

My Path Is Secure

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Psalm 18:32 It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure.

O-bservation:

The greatest King of all time was David of Israel. In this passage, he acknowledged why he was such a winner. He said, "It is God who arms me with strength."

A-pplication:

Certainly the king was speaking in military terms in this text; however, we take it this AM to speak of our need for security. Strength is much more than just physical. It also includes emotions, character, and willpower. In all of these categories, God will enable those who call on His name. Most of all, the Path that He leads us on is a safe and secured direction. How many times have you spoken with a friend who has lost their way? In those times, because of the Lord’s grace in my life, I walk away praising Jesus and knowing "My Path Is Secure."

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, Thank You that, because of You, I have strength today and "My Path Is Secure." Amen

The Four Corners

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Psalm 89:14 Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; love and faithfulness go before you.

O-bservation:

Here King David laid out "The Four Corners" of our Heavenly Father's rule. Love and Faithfulness proceed the Lord, and Righteousness and Justice are the foundation upon which His Kingdom stands.

A-pplication:

"The Four Corners" of our Father's rule is what makes the gospel so attractive. Our God's Love and Faithfulness gives a person hope that they really are accepted into the family of God. However, Righteousness and Justice means God treats all of us without preference. If a person chooses to rebel or a nation decides that they will hold their people under tyranny, the Lord still loves each individual equally. He won't force us to do anything, but He will love us to the end. "The Four Corners" of His rule demand it.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, Today I am resting in "The Four Corners" of Your rule. Help me lead the way You do. Amen

I’m God’s Child, And So Are You

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Galatians 4:7 So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.

O-bservation:

The Apostle Paul wrote to the Galatians, who were in jeopardy of giving up all the grace they had received from Jesus in return for their "old law" nature. Here the Apostle says the old law was not for freedom but for bondage. It was really a form of slavery. When Jesus came, however, we were set free. We're no longer slaves, but God's children.

A-pplication:

Sure parents rule, but if you’re a child of the parent you have free run of the place. At least that's what I remember growing up in my parents’ world. I knew what they had was mine in time. I knew I was an heir. They set me up to win. But Jesus set us up even better. He made us joint heirs with Him to all the Father has. We have full run of the place and we should live like it. Too often we let the devil turn us into beggars, like we live outside of Dad's favor. But nothing could be further from the truth for a "Follower of Jesus." The truth today is, "I'm God's Child, And So Are You!"

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, Thank You this AM that You made me a joint heir with You to all the Father has. I'm no longer a slave to fear, I am a child of God! Amen

He Kept Going

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Matthew 14:14 When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick.

O-bservation:

Jesus had just heard that John the Baptist, his beloved friend, and cousin, had been martyred by King Herod Antipas. Immediately the Bible says that Jesus retreated to a place of solitude in a boat, but the crowds had heard where he was and followed him. When his boat reached the shore, there were so many hurting people, then Jesus began to heal the sick. Since there was no time to mourn the loss of his friend and relative, “He Kept Going.”

A-pplication:

In my heart, I’m not promoting this devotional to suggest that when someone near to you passes that you aren’t supposed to mourn their loss. What I am saying is that for Jesus, the continual unending needs of the people and the press of the crowd made it impossible for him to mourn the loss of his friend and cousin John for more than a couple of hours on a boat. So, “He Kept Going!” Surely Jesus knew his timetable. Certainly, he knew the clock was ticking and what his mission required would make it impossible to continually pause and ponder. Oftentimes we read that Jesus would get away from the crowds to pray. After that, “He Kept Going.” We aren’t Jesus. Our emotional and mental health require rest. It is mandated for us that each week we stop and take our sabbath and reframe. Each week when we hit the pause button, even if just for a day, WE CAN KEEP GOING.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, Help me this AM to remember that I’m not you. Help me remember that this body of mine can wear out quickly without rest. Help me to rest even in my most trying times. I want to “Keep Going,” for your glory. Amen
