Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Ecclesiastes 1:2
“Meaningless! Meaningless!” says the Teacher. “Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless.”
O-bservation:
King Solomon had lived a long time when he finally came to the above conclusion. “Everything is meaningless!” It wasn’t that there were a few things he found meaningless that is so disturbing, it’s the fact that in Solomon’s opinion everything was meaningless.
A-pplication:
There are probably few men in history who have had the ability to completely exhaust the research of a given topic with all the tools available to them at that present time in history. One of those men would have been King Solomon. Yes, this is the Bible, and yes, all things in this book are ordained and authored by God. The dilemma we face is that this great man of wisdom had arrived at such … “A Sad State Of Mind.” My personal belief is that Solomon at times strayed so far from God’s plan for his life that he really was tormented by his sin. I do believe he got it together in the end, because at the end of this book he states … “Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind” (Ecc. 12:13b). It’s true that it’s never too late to begin again. But never come to the point that “Everything Is Meaningless!” Certainly God has placed “Eternity In Our Hearts” (Ecc. 3:11b). Because He has, it gives all of us meaning in this life to carry on.
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
As I read Solomon’s “Sad State Of Mind” this AM, I must admit that I was troubled. I don’t ever want to feel as though I’ve been placed on this earth for NOTHING. I ask for just enough VICTORY to keep me going, and just enough PAIN to help me remember where my joy comes from. Amen
