Running?!

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Jonah 1:3a

But Jonah ran away from the Lord and headed for Tarshish.

O-bservation:

The Prophet Jonah had been told by the Lord to go to Nineveh and preach to the people. But instead of obeying God, Jonah ran in the opposite direction, toward Tarshish, by way of ship.

A-pplication:

Let’s start with this fact: Tarshish is in Spain, 2,500 miles away from Nineveh, which is in Iraq! Joppa, where Jonah boarded the ship for Tarshish, is much closer to Nineveh than it is to Tarshish but definitely located between the two. It’s obvious that Jonah did the exact opposite of what God called him to do initially. The scripture says he “RAN” away from the Lord. I’ve learned in my lifetime that when it comes to obeying the voice of the Lord, many folks are seen “RUNNING” away from the Lord. Indeed, there are two options today. You can be found “RUNNING” away from the Lord’s will, or you can be found “RUNNING” toward the Lord’s will. We’re all “RUNNING,” the question is in what direction.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

I’m “RUNNING” just as hard as I can toward You today! Help me reach my goal … “Your Will!” Amen
