Keeping The Main Thing The Main Thing

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

2 Corinthians 4:5

For what we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake.

O-bservation:

When you read the first chapter of the book of Philippians (another book Paul wrote), you will see that there was competition and impure motivation on the part of some ministers preaching the Gospel. Paul said it didn’t matter, as long as the Good News was getting out there. But here, St. Paul reminds all of us what the biblical standard for ministry is. He said, “We don’t promote ourselves but only Jesus.” As far as it relates to ministers, we are Your SERVANTS because we’re doing it all for Jesus!

A-pplication:

It is true that there are some ministers today, as was true in Paul’s day, who have made the Gospel into a huge business centering on themselves. We don’t know exactly who they are, but if it was true back THEN, it’s true NOW. How does it happen. I can only tell you from my own personal experience how it happened to me. I got so busy in the ministry that I forgot I am called to serve the Lord’s people, not be a star of the people. There is only one STAR in the kingdom of God, and that is the “Bright and Morning Star” of heaven. Jesus! It came to a place in my life where I had to shut myself in with the Lord for several days and repent for what I had done. I said, “Lord, this calling was never given to me to serve myself. This call was given by You in order to serve You and the people You bring into my life to minister to.” From that day until now, with God’s help, I’ve reminded myself that I am “Keeping The Main Thing, The Main Thing!” That’s my calling.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

You are the Main reason I’m alive and well today! You are the “Main Thing” in my life! Amen
