Ya Gotta Be Careful
S. O. A. P.
Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
1 Corinthians 8:9
Be careful, however, that the exercise of your rights does not become a stumbling block to the weak.
O-bservation:
St. Paul had just referenced meat sacrificed to idols and that many who had just become a believer in Jesus still fell back into their old ways of law breaking and law keeping. He said here that because of those who are young and weak in the faith, be careful not to exercise your rights in Christ to the point that you cause another believer, who is weak, to fall.
A-pplication:
What the Apostle Paul was saying here was simply, “Ya Gotta Be Careful.” Yes, you do have rights in following Christ that the Old Covenant never afforded you, but you can’t flaunt them in front of others. In contemporary times this is also true. If a person has a real weakness in a given area, why would I purposely, because of my freedom or lack of conviction about a certain thing, be so bold that I would overwhelm that person with my freedom? My freedom may throw them into a spiritual tailspin. Because I love my brother or sister, I will hold back on my freedom points when I’m with them, so I don’t cause them to stumble. Now here’s what I think. You can do what you want, but “Ya Gotta Be Careful.”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
As I go forward today to impact my world in a positive way for You, help me be careful. I want to be a blessing and not a problem for others. Amen
