Who Do We Gather?
S. O. A. P.
Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Luke 15:1
Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering around to hear Jesus.
O-bservation:
Jesus, the Son of God, was preparing to speak to all who would listen, and here in this chapter we find that the first to gather around Him were those most despised by the religious leaders. This text says the TAX COLLECTORS and SINNERS were ready to listen!
A-pplication:
There’s two things that I think you and I should take note of in this devo. First, the readiness of the very ones you would think would be least interested in “God Talk” were the first to gather around Jesus. The second thing that is significant is that Jesus was naturally prepared and comfortable engaging with them. As a minister, I’m challenged. First, who am I hanging with? Second, if the despised in society don’t feel comfortable around me, who have I prepared myself to meet? Sometimes we want to meet people like us or who are of the some cut of society or perhaps have something to offer us. That was not the case with Jesus. No one had much of anything to offer the One who had created them. He wasn’t here for HIM, He was here for THEM! So the question remains for you and me … “Who Do We Gather?” I’m convicted this AM. I’m done with “Me Stuff.” I’m ready for THEM!
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
I want to gather the very people You gathered. I want those who are despised by others and who have nothing to offer me to feel like they just met their best friend when I meet them. Forgive me Jesus. I want to be like YOU! Amen
