Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
Woe to those who make unjust laws, to those who issue oppressive decrees, to deprive the poor of their rights and withhold justice from the oppressed of my people, making widows their prey and robbing the fatherless.
This passage is actually a continuation of the previous chapter. But here God says to His people of Israel in particular, “Woe to you for the lousy laws you’ve made and written. For holding back true justice to those you have oppressed, as in the case of the poor, the widows, and the orphans.”
Let’s move from the days of old and Israel’s context and bring this passage to right now. Here’s what the Lord would say to all of the elected and appointed government officials that put their interests above the needs of the poor and marginalized of our day. Here’s what He would say to all the sex-traffickers and drug dealers and phony religious leaders and the business thieves of our day. For a better and more poignant word, here’s what God would say to all the BULLIES of our society. I have no doubt that our God is saying to all those … WOE! The word WOE means that which brings great sorrow and distress. As a nation, we cannot continue the all-out BULLYING of the disenfranchised and feel as though we will somehow escape the WOE declarations upon a nation no longer UNDER GOD. I do not want to see what happens When God Says, “WOE!” But I am crying for mercy.
Help me, help my family, help Your Church, help this nation, help us every one when God Says, “WOE!” Amen
