Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap.
Jesus had just warned His disciples to be ready because a day would be coming when the temple would be destroyed. This was the rebuilt temple that Herod the Great had built in Jerusalem. The temple would be destroyed by the Roman Emperor Titus in 70 AD, just as Jesus had predicted. His disciples asked the Lord what would be the signs of that happening? Jesus said many things, but one thing was, “Watch Out For The TRAP!”
The TRAP Jesus spoke of then is still the same TRAP that can happen to anyone today. Jesus was speaking of a TRAP that happens to people when they get comfortable. It happens when a person begins to lighten up and feel as though the battle is over and it’s time to party. At first, it’s maybe just a drink to ease one’s mind. But in time, it can become a way of life, and it can get out of balance to the point that it turns into more and more of a real substance abuse problem. That, in turn, causes anxieties of every description. Quickly Jesus said, “The day will come on you like a TRAP.” What DAY is Jesus speaking of here? I believe He was speaking of the day it becomes an ADDICTION. In my country, especially the day of ADDICTION has arrived for many. Perhaps you’re thinking, “Rich, this could never happen to me.” Yes, but it could happen to a brother, sister, son, daughter, grandson, or granddaughter. This AM Jesus is reminding us all to “Watch Out For The TRAP!”
I’m ready! Help me today to “Watch Out For The TRAP!” Amen
