The Spirit Of DUMBNESS

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Mark 3:4
Then Jesus asked them, “Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they remained silent.
O-bservation:
This is part of a story where Jesus went into a synagogue on the Sabbath. There was a man with a shriveled hand in the meeting. The religious Jews were looking for something that they could use to accuse Jesus. They wanted to see if Jesus would heal the man on the Sabbath. Jesus had the man stand, and he asked, “Is it lawful to do good or bad, to save life, or to kill on the Sabbath? No one said a word. They ALL remained silent.
A-pplication:
You might say that these religious people had been struck by “The Spirit Of DUMBNESS.” They were unable to speak when Jesus asked a simple question. Either way they answered the question they would look DUMB for the centuries to come because of their laws, which they were misinterpreting from the beginning. But this is really about the inability to SPEAK when the stakes are high. If ever it was appropriate to ask these people, “Has the cat got your tongue,’ it would have been then. We’re now living in a day when we, as “Followers of Christ,” are on the clock. The world is asking questions that must be answered. Those answers will COST us. But the real question is, will we be strong enough to answer forthrightly, or will we be struck with, “The Spirit Of DUMBNESS?”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
When it’s my turn to speak, I ask that You’ll give me the “Spirit of Boldness” and not the “Spirit of DUMBNESS.” Amen
