The Need For Secrecy
S. O. A. P.
Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
John 7:10
However, after his brothers had left for the festival, he went also, not publicly, but in secret.
O-bservation:
This was a time of the year when it would have been the fall season and the Feast of Tabernacles, which closed out the season of Atonement in the Jewish calendar. Jesus told His disciples that He was not going with them to Jerusalem at this time. They left, and very soon after, He went there anyway. At that time in Jesus’ life, there was “The Need For Secrecy.”
A-pplication:
Jesus had told His disciples that it was not yet His time. He told them at this point they were not hated, but that He was hated. So for Jesus, there was “The Need For Secrecy.” In many ways, I feel like that today. We live in a society where many norms have been turned upside down. One might say that no one is even sure who their real friends are anymore. Heavenly wisdom is what is needed, even as I write. Also, the day is upon us where we are being called to bear witness of the truth of the gospel and cease the knee jerk judgment of others. “The Time For Secrecy” is upon us. Let wisdom rule your words. The brother of our Lord said, “Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to get angry” (James 1:19a). Perhaps we will return to a more normal way of living in time, but for now, we are experiencing “The Need For Secrecy.”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
I don’t believe there’s ever been a time in my life where it is so necessary for we believers to operate in wisdom. Help me Lord, to stop, think, and pray before I speak. I want Your wisdom to guide my words. Amen
