Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.
This was Jesus’ priestly prayer to His Father in heaven the night He was arrested and prepared for death. While in the Garden of Gethsemane, He prayed for His disciples, who would be left on this earth to carry out His mission. He said, “Lord, please make them holy by Your truth.” Then He said, “Your Word is truth.”
It’s interesting that the King of Kings and Lord of all Lords was concerned about the very men that He had discipled while here on earth. That was His chief concern before He returned to His Father in heaven. He knew that if this gospel was going to go viral, the disciples must be assured of the gospel they were required to preach. Jesus believed that He had done what His Father had told Him to tell them, now it would be dependent on their personal decision to carry out the task. What made the difference was two things. First, the disciples were baptized in the precious Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost after Jesus had ascended back to His Father. Second, they were sanctified (made holy) by “The Holy Truth Of God’s Word.” If they had in any way been seen as phony, the gospel would never have endured. But these men gave their very lives for the gospel they preached. Indeed, Jesus’ prayer was answered.
I’m so grateful this AM that You had such concern for the men that You left the gospel with to preach. Your holy prayer the night before You were crucified makes me know that Your first concern is always for Your people. Amen
