Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people he chose for his inheritance.
When David was speaking of the blessed nation whose God is the Lord, I’m sure he was speaking of his country. God had even told Abraham, hundreds of years earlier, that from him would come the nation of Israel and that they would be God’s people. Blessed above all others.
I hate to throw a wrench into the observation. Even though the observation is true, the passage was written for all time. So when I read this verse, I think of my own country. Those in Europe would think of theirs, and Africa, and on and on. The truth is, whatever our nations have done wrong, we still pray and believe that our nation will humble themselves and repent and change and God’s blessing would return (2 Ch. 7:14). Even though my country is buried in arrogance and sin and even idol worship, I cannot deny that God’s hand is upon us. The good that has been accomplished and the people that have been blessed both here and abroad can only be explained as the hand of God giving His divine favor. We have so many ills and desperately need revival, but as of now, we “Followers Of Jesus” everywhere can only refer to our nation as “The Blessed Nation.”
This AM, I can only thank You for allowing me the favor that has come my way because of where I live. Our problems embarrass me, yet Your grace sustains me, and for that, I give You praise. Amen
