Teen Love
S. O. A. P.
Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Colossians 2:5
For though I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit and delight to see how disciplined you are and how firm your faith in Christ is.
O-bservation:
St. Paul wrote this letter to the church at Colossae from a prison house in Rome. When he wrote the letter, he was not with them. Today we write emails to people living next door to us, but in Paul’s day, it took a while for a letter to be delivered. He told them that even though he could not be with them in the flesh, he was with them in spirit. Most of all, he applauded them for their growing faith.
A-pplication:
You can check the date above as to when I’m writing this, but since I’ve referenced it, you can also know that I’m just a few months shy of being married to Robyn for forty-eight years! When we met in the fall of 1971, she lived in Missouri, and I lived in Minnesota. We were together, all told, for about six weeks over a thirteen-month courtship until marriage. So our relationship was developed apart from each other and through the mail. We would often sign off on our letters with THIS VERSE! Why? Because we knew as teenagers that even though we weren’t together in the flesh, by way of the Holy Spirit, we were always together. Our main hope during this season of “Teen Love” was that each of us would develop a deeper love for Jesus and His Word until we would meet again. Thankfully, the Lord was with us, and by His Grace, we did draw closer to the Lord. Today we’re still experiencing “Teen Love” every time we read this verse because we know that God is still working in us both.
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
No words can express what I feel in my heart this AM. Your grace and your kindness to me in sending me this wonderful woman has been my greatest gift outside of salvation. Until I see You face-to-face, never let me forget “TEEN LOVE.” Amen
