Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
Put on sackcloth, you priests, and mourn; wail, you who minister before the altar. Come, spend the night in sackcloth, you who minister before my God.
The prophet Joel wrote this during the time of Nebuchadnezzar’s rule in Babylon. It most likely was just before God’s impending judgement upon Judah at the hands of Nebuchadnezzar. In fact, in 586 BC the powerful king burned Jerusalem and the temple to the ground. This verse was a plea from the man of God to priests and other ministers at the altar of the Lord to humble themselves and weep and fast and mourn and to cry out to God. Joel felt it was the last chance to stave off the judgement of the Lord against His wayward people. But it didn’t happen.
The power of this passage is simply that history repeats itself. We see similar things happening in our day, and the same old wretchedness and evil is all around us although we’re in a highly advanced and technical season of history. We live in a day when the last chance for a once God-fearing nation is approaching God’s hand of judgement, because of its own debaucheries. As was true in Joel’s day, “Spiritual Leaders Must Lead The Way” if there is a hope of this nation turning back to God. It didn’t happen then; can it happen now? I’m ready to weep and fast and mourn and cry out to God for spiritual renewal. I hope this AM you will join me!
Please Help! Please give us another chance! Please hold back Your hand of wrath! Please … Amen
