Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
They will be called the Holy People, the Redeemed of the Lord; and you will be called Sought After, the City No Longer Deserted.
Isaiah, the prophet, spoke the words of our Lord over Israel and the city of Jerusalem. He said that the people of Israel would one day be called Holy and the Redeemed of the Lord. He then said that Jerusalem would be called “Sought After,” a City No Longer Deserted.
In the New Testament, Israel is also known as the Church of Jesus Christ. I like the fact that what is being said here is that the day will come when the Church will be called “Sought After.” I can remember as a little boy being somewhat despised at my public schools when kids would find out that my father was a pastor of a Pentecostal Church. In some regards, I lived the prophecy of this Old Testament passage. As in, “I’m livin’ the dream!” What I mean by that is, I was there when the Charismatic Movement began in the late 1960s, and people were being baptized in the Holy Spirit at Notre Dame University. The Church was the rage. People began flocking to the presence of the Holy Spirit in the churches across this country. While that was happening, worldwide evangelism was on the rise and the church began unusual growth around the world. In my lifetime, I’ve been privileged to watch Jesus’ Church become the “Sought After” Church that Isaiah prophesied.
In no way am I saying there is no longer a price to pay in order to follow Jesus. What I am grateful for is that I live at a time when Your Church is truly Sought After. Amen
