Say What?

S. O. A. P.

Here’s your 90 second AM devotional!

S-cripture:

Genesis 22:2

Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.”

O-bservation:

To Abraham and Sarah, their son Isaac was the “Promised One” in their old age. Abraham was 100 when the boy was born. As astounding as that was to Abraham and Sarah, what God told Abraham to do at that point was in the natural … “ABSURD.” God said, “Take your son up the mountain and sacrifice him as a burnt offering!” The Bible says Abraham gave no “Push Back” to the Lord, but proceeded with the mission the next AM.

A-pplication:

I remember as a small boy growing up in Florida that there were regular “Atom Bomb Shelter Tests” in grade school. Occasionally, children would miss the instructions about forthcoming alerts. The instructions simply said, “A loud horn will go off throughout the school and you will run to the bomb shelters.” When the alert would go off the following week, those who had missed the instructions were shocked! Their friends would scream, “It’s an ‘Atom Bomb’ alert!” As they would run in panic to the underground shelters, they would say … “Say What?” Once they were in the shelter, the teacher would say, “It was only a test.” That’s what happened to Abraham. Whatever he was thinking, he never said … “Say What?” Like Abraham, when God speaks, no matter how “ABSURD” we may think it is, He’s only looking for our OBEDIENCE. Some day it could be more than just a test.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

Today, once again, I ask for Your strength that I may completely obey. Amen
