Remember Where You Came From

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Deuteronomy 6:21b

“We were slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt, but the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand.”

O-bservation:

Moses, while giving the laws of God to the people of Israel, said in the previous verse, “When your children ask you in the future what is the purpose of these laws and commands, tell them about your history. Tell them that at some point in time you were all slaves in Egypt to Pharaoh, but your great God brought you out of your bondage to glorious freedom.”

A-pplication:

The message here from Moses to the people of Israel, in my opinion, was simply, “Remember Where You Came From.” All of us who are “Followers Of Jesus” has a past. All of us, in some way or another, have something that at one time we were in bondage to. What I faced at one point in my life maybe never had a hold on you and vice versa. Yet the fact remains that each one of us had to be “brought out” by the Lord from something that we could not “get out of” on our own. The power of Jesus is not only to FORGIVE; it’s also to DELIVER. Here’s the challenge: the longer it’s been that you and I have left behind our past, the greater potential there is to believe that we didn’t have a past. When we forget we had a past, the enemy of our soul very subtlety helps us think that we’re where we are because of our own merit. When that happens, overwhelming arrogance floods the once-freed soul. The best way to avoid that temptation is by listening to the words of Moses and, “Remember Where You Came From.”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

This AM, I’m reminded of the old song, “Jesus, I’ll never forget what You’ve done for me.” For me, it’s a promise, today and every day. Amen
