Overwhelmed With Wonder

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Mark 9:15

As soon as all the people saw Jesus, they were overwhelmed with wonder and ran to greet him.

O-bservation:

Peter, James, and John had been on the Mount of Transfiguration with Jesus. When they came down, they joined other disciples who were in a fierce argument with the teachers of the law. As Jesus and the three headed toward the other disciples, the Bible says the people saw Jesus and ran to meet Him because they were “Overwhelmed With Wonder.”

A-pplication:

As I travel around this country, and other places in the world, there’s much discussion about Christians and Christianity. Many people are quick to speak vitriolic words of angst about Christians they know who can’t be trusted, or Christianity in general and what they perceive it to be. Their perceptions are usually based on some hypocrite they know who ruined it for them. BUT whenever the name of Jesus is mentioned, something happens in the conversation. The defenses let down and the angst ceases, if but only for a moment. Sometimes a faraway look comes to their eyes, and occasionally a smile, and they say something like, “I believe Jesus was a good man.” What just happened? The sheer mention of the name of Jesus often causes people to be “Overwhelmed with Wonder.” They don’t know Him, they’re happy to fight against His present-day followers and say bad things about them, but concerning Jesus, they are “Overwhelmed With Wonder.” Why not decide today to refrain from asking Jesus for anything. Instead, spend some time considering Jesus and just be “Overwhelmed With Wonder.”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

I’ll take just a moment to pause … Wow! Once again, I’m overwhelmed by You! Amen
