Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
“Do not defile the land where you live and where I dwell, for I, the Lord, dwell among the Israelites.”
The Lord spoke to the people of Israel and told them not to defile the land in which they lived. Earlier in the passage, the Lord was talking about allowing the taking of life in one’s city, and that any group of people that would allow bloodshed to go unpunished would face the fact that there would be no Atonement made for such a city.
I know this passage says that God dwells among the Israelites, but the Israelites of the Old Testament also represent the Church in the New Testament. So God is telling us to operate with real justice in our city and our land. Today, in the United States, we are facing a deluge of crime, including gun violence, to the point that sometimes I wonder if God has turned His back on some of our big cities. We live in the age of Grace. However, God said in the Old Testament that there would be no Atonement for the sins of a city that allowed itself to be overrun with bloodshed. I look at what is happening in my city of Miami and shake my head and beg God for mercy. I’m not sure how you feel about this passage, or if you even think that an Old Testament passage has merit when it comes to Godly judgment within a community in our present day. I hope that you would join me this AM and pray, “Oh Lord, Please Cleanse Our Land.”
This Am I’m earnest in my prayers. We as a nation are desperate for You to cleanse our land. So it is my prayer that You would help us to atone for such terrible actions and give us another chance. Amen
