Here’s your 90 second AM devotional!
Rise up and help us; rescue us because of your unfailing love.
King David and the People of Israel were in a tough spot. He was anxious. He wasn’t sure what was going to happen next. He reminded God of all the times God had helped Israel in the past, and couldn’t understand why it wasn’t happening again. Finally David just said … “Help us because You love us.”
It’s human nature, I guess, to begin to list the reasons why God should help us when we’re in trouble. The list usually includes all the wonderful things we’ve done, like: “I keep the 10 Commandments. I help old people across the street. I still live with my first wife, and as You already know I’m an all-around ‘Good Person.’” If that doesn’t work, we go to an even more spiritual presentation, like: “I really have a heart for missions. I intend to go on a mission’s trip in about 10 years if I’m still alive. Not only that God, but I’m really troubled about poor people in my community so I’m going to give a sack of groceries once a month to the mission downtown. And I’m probably going to give money too.” Sound familiar? Here’s the deal, God will help us, but … “Not Because Of Anything We’ve Done!” Like David, we need to ask for help, just because He loves us.
Today I am desperate for Your intervention in my life. All I have to say is … Can You help me just because You love me? Amen
