Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
1 Thessalonians 3:12
May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else, just as ours does for you.
St. Paul, earlier in the text, almost bemoaned the fact that he had not been able to get back to visit this young church in Thessalonica. He longed to know that they were not just surviving but thriving in their faith. Indeed they were because, in time, Timothy had reported to Paul of their faithfulness to the Lord. In this verse, Paul assured them of his love for all of them, but reminded them that “Love Is Always The Goal.”
For the believer in Christ Jesus, “Love Is Always The Goal.” We can be highly educated or not at all. We can be quite wealthy or not at all. We can be extremely wise or not at all. But in the end, we will be judged on whether or not we loved well. To love, for the believer, is more than being appreciative of people you naturally like or wanting to hang out with people who can help you. No! It’s so much more than that. It’s about loving the unlovely. It’s about loving the non-loving. It’s about loving the one who speaks behind your back and despitefully uses you for their own gain. Jesus went to the cross because He loved well. Paul was beheaded because he loved well. Will you and I love well? That will always be the question before us, because, “Love Is Always The Goal.”
This AM, I’m still locked down because of the coronavirus, but with Your help, I can love my family well. I can love my church well. I can love my neighborhood well. But, only with Your help. Because “Love Is Always The Goal. Amen
