Lord, Are You Serious?

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

1 Chronicles 17:16

Then King David went in and sat before the Lord, and he said: “Who am I, Lord God, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far?”

O-bservation:

This question by King David to God Almighty came after Nathan the prophet had told him who he was in God’s sight. Nathan told the king that he was not going to be the one to build a house for God, but that his son would build it. But then he told him that he would establish the house of David for many generations to come. At this, David sat back and said, “But who am I, that You would do this for me?” Or in modern terms, “Lord Are You Serious?”

A-pplication:

Let’s leave this story as a backdrop to my life and yours. Here in my sixth decade of living, there are a few things that leave me shaking my head when it comes to the grace and blessing of God upon my life. When I think about it, the Lord brought me from a small place yet loving family, into what I consider a large and spacious dwelling. He brought me the most loving wife, the best four sons, our daughters-in-love are amazing, and the grand darlings I could speak about forever. Let’s keep going: a loving church family, a roof to live under, food for strength, health, friends, credibility, respect, and a peaceful setting. I know this could change tomorrow, and if it does, I’ll still say with a humble heart, “Lord, Are You Serious?” What are you amazed about today? Why not list them? It’s probably a longer list than you suppose.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

I’m blessed this AM! It’s hard for me to believe one man could be so loved by His Heavenly Father. You have been so, so good to me. I feel like King David today. Who am I? Really! Amen
