Longing For Something Better

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Hebrews 11:16

Instead, they were longing for a better country—a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.

O-bservation:

Here the Apostle began his discussion of biblical saints who had passed on to their eternal reward. He said that many of them had left the comfort of what they had known for something better. They never found it on this side, because what they were looking for was a home God had prepared for them in heaven. As much as they had or had not, they were all “Longing For Something Better.”

A-pplication:

As a little boy, I was raised by Pentecostal parents. I remember being ostracized as a child by others because my parents were pastors of a little Pentecostal church on the wrong side of the railroad tracks. We didn’t have much, but I was always taught that God had prepared a place for us that was so much more than any of the rich folks we knew could ever have here on earth. My parents were unyielding on that point. Consequently, at this stage of my earthly journey, having weathered many storms of life, a lengthy service here on earth, and success beyond what my parents ever dreamed possible, I’m FAR from SATISFIED. WHY? I guess it’s because of this passage in Hebrews. Even though this passage was penned about two thousand years ago, I relate to all those folks who’ve gone before me. We’re all “Longing For Something Better.”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

I guess what I’m really saying this AM is that I’ll never be truly at home until I’m with You. Amen
