S-cripture:
1 Chronicles 15:29
As the ark of the covenant of the Lord was entering the City of David, Michal daughter of Saul watched from a window. And when she saw King David dancing and celebrating, she despised him in her heart.
O-bservation:
King David had endeavored to bring the Ark of God from the home of Abinadab, three months earlier, but along the way, one of Abinadab’s sons, Uzzah, had been struck down by the Lord for touching the Ark. At that point, David left the Ark of God at Obed-Edom’s home for three months. David heard that the blessing of God had rained down onto Obed-Edom’s life and household. So David went, this time very carefully, and retrieved the Ark. upon his triumphant and joyful entry into Jerusalem with the Ark of God, his wife Michal looked down from a window in the palace upon her husband dancing, and despised him in her heart.
A-pplication:
Let’s leave out the point that David was Michal’s husband and remind everyone here that David was the sovereign King of Israel. Michal should have danced and applauded with joy as the others did. Instead, she somehow felt like the King was lowering himself to dance before and praise the Lord. She had two reasons to honor David, but she decided not to choose either option. Instead, she found fault. She’s like so many who have a tendency to pull defeat out of the jaws of victory. What should Michal have done? What Michal should have done is what all of us still have the opportunity to do every day. “Let’s Make Sure We Honor Leadership.”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
My honor begins by honoring You every step of the way. I’ve learned that when my first thought is to honor You, my next thought is to honor someone here on earth. I want to honor others. Help me I pray. Amen
