Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
Do not go over your vineyard a second time or pick up the grapes that have fallen. Leave them for the poor and the foreigner. I am the Lord your God.
Here the Lord was instructing the people of Israel to be generous. In discussing how they were to harvest their fields and vineyards he said, “Leave Something for the poor and the foreigner who have little.”
Have you ever met someone who was unwilling to round it off to the next dollar? By that I mean, let’s say you gave the person $10 and when they came back with $4.67 in change you said, “Oh just give me the four bucks back.” But instead of happily keeping the change they insisted on you taking the sixty-seven cents too because that’s what they’d require of you. God was telling Israel to round the corners off of their fields and “Leave Something” on those rounded corners for the poor. Don’t take it ALL. As followers of the most high God, we are called to be generous. Generosity is not about “trying to give” as much as it is about “leaving something lay.” If your heart is generous, then today, somewhere, somehow, just “Leave Something.”
Thank You this AM, Lord, for Your kindness to me. I know that everything I have in this life is because YOU gave it to me. Help me today to “Leave Something” for someone. I want to be generous. Amen
