Keep Forgiving

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

Luke 23:34a

Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”

While hanging on the cross—which featured nails that held His hands to it while He hung suspended in air, and a nail that pinned His two feet to the cross—Jesus said aloud, “Father forgive all of these people, because they don’t know what they’re doing.

Most of us have never personally known someone who has ever suffered as much as our Lord and Savior did. We know that He suffered stripes from whips across His back. We know that He had a crown of thorns jammed upon His head. We know that He carried the cross on His shoulder up to Golgotha. We know about the nails in His hands and feet. But what surprises me every time I read this passage is the thing He said while in such pain, “Father forgive them.” With Jesus, it was always about another chance. It was always about forgiveness. You and I have that same opportunity daily as His followers. We sometimes think there are a myriad of choices, but for the “Follower Of Jesus” there’s really only ONE. “Keep Forgiving!”

Dear Jesus,

If YOU could forgive in the extreme pain others had put on YOU, then I know this AM that I really only have one choice. I will “Keep Forgiving.” Amen

  1. I guess I really needed to hear this one Pastor…So timely, you would never imagine. Dad is still in trauma center and folks around him are acting out. Had me wondering why I agreed to be his power of attorney. But now I see that God knew that he would need a strong advocate to fight on his behalf. Now I just have to forgive those who have tried to take advantage of him and that continue to obstacles in the way.
