Just When We Need Him Most!

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

1 Samuel 23:17

“Don’t be afraid,” he said. “My father Saul will not lay a hand on you. You will be king over Israel, and I will be second to you. Even my father Saul knows this.”

O-bservation:

Even though God had sent the very people David needed at his most desperate time, he still had Saul and the Israeli army chasing him to kill him. Jonathan, Saul’s son, was David’s best friend. In the middle of David’s seeming nightmare, Jonathan breaks away from his father to meet with David and tells him that even his dad knows that David will be king! The Bible says this act on the part of Jonathan helped David find the strength to carry on.

A-pplication:

This is an amazing story on so many levels. The underlying theme is that David is running in fear from the most powerful army on the planet at that time. The emotional drain and sheer fear that this had produced in David’s life is indescribable. Yet, at that moment when hope was all but gone, his best friend Jonathan, the son of the king and the next in line for the succession of kings to happen, shows up in David’s life and says, “You will be King, I won’t. And I will be your second in command. Even my dad knows this!” Can you imagine how impossible this is? Jonathan’s wish to be second in command never happened. He was killed in battle, but his act of support is exactly what gave David the confidence to carry on. Whatever you’re afraid of today, don’t quit, don’t give in to the fear of this virus and what happens next because we serve a God who will show up, “Just When We Need Him Most!”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

I’m grateful this AM that we’re going to come out of the present fear and turmoil the entire world is battling right now. You didn’t bring us this far to leave us. I know You will show up with a miracle, Just When We Need You Most! Amen
