Just Being Upset Isn’t Enough

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

2 Samuel 13:21

When King David heard all this, he was furious.

O-bservation:

One of King David’s sons, Amnon, had raped his half-sister Tamar, the full sister of Absolom. She went to live with her brother and Absolom told her to stay quiet. He was waiting, in my opinion, to see what his father would do. The King was FURIOUS but did nothing.

A-pplication:

This story reminds me of politicians who run on a pro-life mandate and they’re all worked up about it. They get the Christian crowd on their side about innocent children being aborted and they win their seat. Then they get to Washington and they don’t do a blooming thing about the issue they ran on. “Just Being Upset Isn’t Enough!” King David should have disciplined his son. It looked like he would, because he was furious, but he did nothing more than get upset. Time passed, Absolom saw his father wouldn’t do anything, so he killed his brother Amnon. In time he split his father’s kingdom and his father’s assistant killed him. Tamar was never heard from again. Here’s a dad who lost three kids because he wouldn’t do anything to bring justice for a broken daughter. It proves that “Just Being Upset, Isn’t Enough!”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

I’m asking this AM that you would help me turn “righteous anger” into “Righteous Action!” Amen
