Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.
Here the Apostle Paul questions who he is trying to please. He’s basically asking, “Am I a People Pleaser, or am I a “Jesus Pleaser?”
There’s always a principle that is being established when a gospel writer asks a question of himself. We are, in turn, supposed to ask ourselves the same question. This question reminds me of Jesus saying, “You can’t serve both God and money” (Matt. 6:24)! Here Paul says, “If I was still trying to please people, I wouldn’t be a servant of Christ.” Certainly the Lord enables us to use wisdom in our deliberations with people so we aren’t cutting everyone off with religious jargon that has little to do with “Following Jesus.” But in the end, not everyone will come over to our side of believing. Consequently, Paul says we’re called to be “Jesus Pleasers.”
No matter what, I’m determined to be a “Jesus Pleaser.” No Matter What! Amen
