Jesus OK, But Jesse?

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Isaiah 11:1

A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit.

O-bservation:

Approximately 700 years before Jesus was born, Isaiah the Prophet predicted it would happen in this passage. Just as remarkable, Isaiah reaches approximately 300 years back in time to say that Jesus’ forefather would be a man named Jesse, who obviously was in the grave already.

A-pplication:

Both of these predictions are absolutely impossible except for the providence of God directing the pen of the Prophet. I suppose we can all agree, since it’s after the fact, that it happened. And it’s Amazing! But the thing that amazes me the most is, “Jesus OK, But Jesse?” I mean it’s all an impossible prediction outside of divine intervention, but why didn’t the Prophet just say David instead of saying David’s father’s name, Jesse? The more I think about it this AM, I’m convinced it was just the Lord putting the cherry on top of the cake. Jesus knows all things knowable in your world and mine. Even if it’s 300 years back or 700 years ahead … He’s got you!

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

This AM I am marveling at Your infinite understanding. But why should I? You’re the One who invented the word UNDERSTANDING! Amen
