It’s Never About Us
S. O. A. P.
Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Matthew 3:11
I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
O-bservation:
The man speaking in this passage is one of the greatest biblical prophets of all time. His name was John the Baptist. It was prophesied by the great Old Testament prophet Isaiah, in Isaiah 40:3, that John the Baptist would one day come and prepare the way for Jesus. This is THE John the Baptist who speaks of Jesus in this text. He was promoting the soon arrival of Jesus as if to say, “It’s Never About Us.”
A-pplication:
I have lived long enough to have known personally or met briefly leaders who in many cases were known worldwide as prophets of the Lord. A number of them, in time, made it obvious that although they may love the Lord, it was always about them and their ministry. That was not true of John the Baptist. Here was a man who had the attention of all of Judea and people were thronging to hear him preach, and then many were repenting and being baptized. However, John made it perfectly clear that another man was coming right behind him and John wasn’t worthy to carry that man’s sandals. He told the people, “He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.” He was speaking of spiritual power. Once again John was helping all of us remember, “It’s Never About Us.”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
What an honor it is to serve Your purposes in my limited way, here on this side of heaven. With Your help, I’ll keep promoting You! Amen
