It Takes More Than Words

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

1 John 3:18

Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.

These words of the Apostle John have to do with real Christian virtue. He said “It Takes More Than Words” to prove people’s love for one another. John said that love moves into action and keeps its promises.

I can tell my wife I love her, and I do most every day, but it’s what I do to prove my words are true that really gets her attention. It’s been said, “Actions speak louder than words,” and that line originated in the Holy Scripture. In fact, this is the perfect scriptural passage to prove it did. Talk can be cheap. It isn’t cheap, but it CAN be. It’s only cheap when there are no actions to back up what’s been said, making the words a lie. Once again, John said we are to act out the promises we make with our words, IN TRUTH. It’s the actions that make the words truthful words. The “Follower of Jesus” is following the Man who spoke words backed up by actions done in truth. He is our example. We don’t follow others initially, instead we follow Jesus and He will lead us to men and women who are good examples of Christian virtue. Let’s get back to the original thought this AM. “It Takes More Than Words.”

Dear Jesus,

I believe this AM that You are with me again today. Because You are with me, I yield my words and my actions to You. Amen
