It Sounded Good At The Time

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Genesis 16:2

So she said to Abram, “The Lord has kept me from having children. Go, sleep with my slave; perhaps I can build a family through her.”

O-bservation:

In the previous chapter, God and Abram had a discussion, and Abram reminded God that although God had promised to build him into a mighty nation, he still didn’t have a son. Undoubtedly, Abram had shared his conversation with the Lord with his wife, Sarai. Now we read that Sarai had an answer to their dilemma. She told Abram to sleep with her servant girl, and she could build a family that way. I’m sure to Abram, “It Sounded Good At The Time.”

A-pplication:

How often could you and I look back on a time in our lives where we wish we wouldn’t have made the decision we did? I can remember several times. But for both of us, we’d probably say, “It Sounded Good At The Time.” How many times have we felt that the Lord spoke to us, yet we tried to MAKE it happen on our own with some crazy idea that really didn’t agree with what God had promised? “It Sounded Good At The Time,” but now we’re in a fix. God promised to make Abram’s offspring as numerous as the sands of the seashore, but certainly not through a slave girl. When we try to do God’s will in a human way, it doesn’t always work out. When He speaks, we must let Him have His way in making the miracle happen.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

I’m Yours this AM. The times I tried to make things happen on my own sounded good at the time, but just turned into a total MESS. Thanks for taking my MESSES and turning them into a Message! Amen
