S-cripture:
Deuteronomy 34:9
Now Joshua son of Nun was filled with the spirit of wisdom because Moses had laid his hands on him. So the Israelites listened to him and did what the Lord had commanded Moses.
O-bservation:
This word took place after the death of Moses. We read that Joshua, who followed Moses as the leader of Israel, was full of the spirit and with wisdom because Moses had laid his hands upon him and blessed him. Because Moses blessed Joshua, the people of Israel followed Joshua’s leadership and obeyed the commands Moses had given him. The power of this passage could be that “It Matters Who Blesses You.”
A-pplication:
Whoever has the greatest say in your life, as in influence, while you are growing up, is the one who usually releases their personal blessing over you. Sometimes they don’t even know they passed it on, but they did because they had your attention in the growing and maturing years of your youth. In a weird way, sometimes the blessing that is passed on is to prosper financially while doing something that is unethical or even illegal. I’m probably using the word blessing in an inappropriate way; however, if the life that is being lived is all one knows and they are prospering while living it, to them it is a blessing. But in my case, my father, who was a man of God, blessed me to follow the Lord. Financial prosperity was not the end goal; pleasing God was the mission. I had some young friends who were blessed by their mentors, but their lives turned out miserable. They had money and misery until they died. I, on the other hand, was blessed to lift up the name of Jesus. Like I said, “It Matters Who Blesses You.”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
Thank You for the right hands on my life while I was growing up. Thank You for the blessing I received. It really does matter who blesses us. Amen
