Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
These were the last words of Jesus while hanging on the cross, just before He breathed His last breath. He had asked for a drink in His final moments, and the soldiers put a sponge in some wine vinegar, put it on a stick, and touched it to Jesus’ mouth. That’s when He said, “IT Is FINISHED!” And He died.
The thing that really hit me this AM, the day before we celebrate the birth of Jesus, is that Jesus completely exhausted the task He was given by His Father. He Finished IT! What was IT? IT had to do with God coming to earth in the form of a baby to experience flesh and blood and put on human clothes. Then to live among men and women and experience what they experience and to show them the life of God in the flesh. Then to teach them God’s ways with words in their language uttered from His own lips. Then to reveal the miracle hand of the Almighty, in the form of phenomenal exploits. He was then rejected by the people He loved and was hung on a cross. The death part was the final IT part. He didn’t run from the FINALE! Because of His faithfulness to His calling, He was raised from the dead by the Holy Spirit and then ascended to heaven. Today He stands at the right hand of the Father. “IT Is Finished!”
I’m so filled with UNSPEAKABLE JOY this AM. Because You finished IT, I have eternal life! Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!! Amen
