It Hurt For My Good

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Hebrews 12:11
No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.
O-bservation:
The writer makes it clear that all discipline hurts in one way or another. It seems unfair and painful at the time, but in time all of us have learned, “It Hurt For My Good.”
A-pplication:
When I was a little boy and willfully disobeyed, my father would discipline me with a spanking. Oftentimes I would bend over and he would say, “Now son, this is going to hurt me more than it hurts you!” I would turn around and say something like, “Dad, please don’t put yourself through it!” Somehow he was willing to endure the pain every time! But through it all this passage of scripture became a reality in my life. I was never afraid of my father. And I learned to obey because of his faithful discipline in my life. It didn’t take long for the spankings to cease and heavier responsibilities were earned because he knew I had learned through discipline. Now, these many years later, as I think back on his discipline I can truly say, “It Hurt For My Good!”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
I’ll never be too old to learn from Your discipline in my life. I’m Yours, do with me as You will! Amen
