In The SPIRIT And In TRUTH

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

John 4:24

God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.

O-bservation:

This quote from Jesus came during His discussion with the woman at the well. This woman had had five husbands and the man she was living with was not one of them. She was interested in finding God. Jesus said, “God is spirit, and anyone that wants to connect with Him must do so ‘In The SPIRIT And In TRUTH.’”

A-pplication:

Worship is about really giving the highest honor possible to our great God. God is so much more than a good friend or acquaintance you or I would be happy to shake hands with. He is the highest, most supreme power and authority in the universe. Yet He is a Spirit, and when we worship Him we must do so “In The Spirit And In TRUTH.” What does that mean? Certainly it’s more than trying to visualize Him as a man or woman. It’s more like getting into Spirit mode and allowing our own spirit to appeal to the Spirit of God in humble adoration. I know this sounds other worldly, and that’s because it is. He is a Spirit. But when we worship Him in spirit, our flesh is denied and the need to somehow be equal, as if it was (in my case) a man to man conversation, completely disappears because of His undeniable greatness. With His greatness now at the forefront of the offering, TRUTH is what naturally emotes from the deepest, inner resources of our soul. Worship now flows from a humble heart. Because God is a Spirit, and His worshippers must worship “In The Spirit And In TRUTH.”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

Sometimes it’s difficult to leave my flesh aside and come to You “In The Spirit And In TRUTH.” However, this AM I humble myself before You and lift up Your holy name. Amen
