Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him.
Jesus was speaking to the Pharisee’s in this passage and was letting them know that they had rejected Him as their Messiah. He told them that John the Baptist had even come preaching this truth and the PROSTITUTES and TAX COLLECTORS believed him but “You PHARISEES did not believe.”
“I Don’t Want To Be … A Pharisee!” Seriously, I want to be a person of faith. I want to believe. I’ve never entertained doubters as longtime friends except to love them to Jesus. Pharisees had their own opinions and laws that they were unwilling under any circumstances to yield to someone else’s ideas. No doubt Jesus was the greatest Rabbi of all time. No one could compare because, well, He is God. Yet every time he stumped the Pharisees they’d leave, unable to defend themselves and unwilling to accept the truth. They’d wait to reconvene when the situation was right. For the Pharisees, the situation was never right because they were kicking against God’s promised Messiah. In Jesus day Prostitutes and Tax Collectors believed so Jesus said, “I’ll go with them.” Because of Jesus, I’m with them too! “I Don’t Want To Be … A Pharisee!”
I’m glad to be a “Friend of Sinners” because you chose me, a sinner. I’m with You! And … I’m with them! Amen
