Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
No one could distinguish the sound of the shouts of joy from the sound of weeping, because the people made so much noise. And the sound was heard far away.
Ezra recounted how loud the response of the people was when they saw that the foundation of the rebuilt temple had been laid. Some were old and wept aloud because they had seen it destroyed many years before. Others were younger and had heard the stories of the former temple. Now they were shouting with joy because their prayers were being answered. What was true of both was the fact that each response was offered from a heart of gratefulness.
All of us are different, and our responses are most often based upon our age perspective. Age has a tendency to change the lens of how we view things. Some of the people in this passage had an age-old lens. They had been in Jerusalem when they were taken to Babylon by Nebuchadnezzar, the king. They watched and heard that he ransacked and burned their beloved temple to the ground. These senior citizens of Jerusalem wept aloud with joy when they saw it being rebuilt 70 years later. The younger crowd had another reason to shout with joy—they realized they would now have their historic property and land back. It’s always time to be thankful. “However You Show Gratefulness, Do It Today.”
This AM, I am just grateful for everything You have done for me. Amen
