Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
But these are written that you may believe[a] that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
John writes this book in his own name, and in conclusion He says that Jesus had performed many more wonders that His disciples witnessed that weren’t recorded in the book. He then said, “But what I have written, I’ve written so you may believe Jesus is the Messiah, the Son Of God.”
It’s as if John is saying, “I’ve done everything I possibly can to get you to believe that Jesus is the Son of God. How Much More Will It Take?” I don’t ever want to be the one who is constantly questioning and never coming to the knowledge of the truth. There were two other groups in this chapter that didn’t believe. One was the disciples when Jesus first entered where they were gathered after His resurrection. They didn’t know who it was until they saw the nail marks in His hands and feet, THEN they believed (vs. 20). Then in verse 28 Thomas had to see his nail marks as well because he wasn’t with the disciples the first time Jesus appeared. When he saw them, he believed. The powerful thing about these two groups is that they were convinced and went on to change the world because they believed. Today the question is, Do we believe that Jesus is the Messiah yet? If not, How Much More Will It Take?
I do believe! With all my heart! Amen
