Here Is The Blessing Of The Lord’s People
S. O. A. P.
Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Numbers 6:24-26
The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.
O-bservation:
“Here Is The Blessing Of The Lord’s People.” This is the blessing the Lord had Moses give to his brother Aaron and his sons to use to bless the people of Israel. It has since been called the Aaronic Blessing. This blessing is still used today in many Jewish synagogues, as well as Christian churches throughout the world.
A-pplication:
Rarely in all of the years that I’ve written a daily SOAP Devotional have I ever used more than one verse as the devotional for that day. However, this is different. This Aaronic Blessing is iconic, and it is recognizable to countless Jews and Christians alike. What I am always so impressed with are the words the Lord told us to use when blessing the people of God. He used the line, “The Lord make His face to shine upon you.” According to reformedanswers.org, a website that gives background on verses throughout God’s word, the word shine in the Hebrew language means “to shed light” or “Illuminate.” God’s face is a metaphor for His presence. I love this because the blessing sounds like this, “May God bless you with no dark places in your pathway and may His presence always be with you.” Wowie! I love this blessing. From this point on, let’s decide to use this Aaronic Blessing to bless everyone we meet.
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
How thankful I am this AM to know that Your desire for my life today is that there would be no dark places in my pathway and that Your presence will always be near me. I know this is going to be a great day. Amen
