Her Makeup Didn’t Help Her!

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

2 Kings 9:30

Then Jehu went to Jezreel. When Jezebel heard about it, she put on eye makeup, arranged her hair and looked out of a window.

Jehu was the new King of Israel. He was hand-picked by God to clean up the mess left behind by Joram, the King who was the son of Ahab and Jezebel. In the meantime, he also did away with Ahaziah, the wicked King of Judah. Now Jehu was headed to destroy the wicked queen known as Jezebel. When Jezebel heard he was coming she put makeup on in order to fix herself up. It didn’t help. Jehu killed her too.

Jezebel’s death had been prophesied years before by the prophet Elijah. And now it was at hand. It’s amazing that Jezebel, as an old woman and after all of her wickedness, had purveyed upon the people of Israel that she somehow thought she still “Had It” so to speak. Something within her must have felt like she could somehow win this young King Jehu, who had killed her son and the King of Judah, with her beauty. It’s an awesome lesson that simply says the more one operates in the flesh, the less the obvious is obvious to them. Her beauty was indeed gone, her appeal had left her when she needed it the most, and … “Her Makeup Didn’t Help Her!” Cover ups fail when we count on them most. It’s time to walk away from the cover up and just lay everything we are before the Lord. Because a broken and contrite heart still works with Jesus.

Dear Jesus,

I’m laying everything before You this AM. I have no cover up. I’m simply asking for You to take me as I am. Amen
