Happy NEW!

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Genesis 1:1

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

O-bservation:

Most theologians agree that Moses wrote the first five books of the Bible. They are known as the Torah, or more familiar to Gentiles, the Pentateuch. That means it was Moses who wrote this famous line that has been argued over for thousands of years, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”

A-pplication:

First of all, “Happy New Year.” That’s right, it’s hard to ignore the date at the top. Here in Miami we always have church on New Year’s Eve. Thousands come out in South Florida to party in God’s house. It’s always easier for me to write my SOAP Devo at 2 in the AM than get up early and post it. I was thinking tonight how our great God is always about the NEW. Today is the beginning of a brand NEW year. Just about the time winter wears us out, there’s a change to the NEW time of the year called spring. Then summer, then fall, then winter again, and a NEW year again. I believe our God is making new planets and solar systems as I write. I’m not saying He’s easily bored, I’m just saying He loves NEW. The day Jesus saved me, which was quite a long time ago now, He put a NEW song in my heart. It wasn’t a downer or a depressing song at all. No! It was a NEW song of joy and life. I know I have some years on me, but that NEW song makes me feel NEW every day. Yes today is the beginning of a brand NEW year, but instead of saying the normal Happy New Year, I’m more inclined to simply say, “Happy NEW!”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

Thank You for another NEW year to serve and worship and live for You. Thank You also that it’s Your decision to make all things NEW! After all, “In the beginning YOU created the heavens and the earth.” Amen
