First Finish What The Lord Gave You To Do
S. O. A. P.
Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Joshua 17:15
“If you are so numerous,” Joshua answered, “and if the hill country of Ephraim is too small for you, go up into the forest and clear land for yourselves there in the land of the Perizzites and Rephaites.”
O-bservation:
Ephraim and Manasseh were the sons of Joseph. Together they comprised a huge tribe of the Israelites. They complained to Joshua that they needed more territory because of their size, yet Joshua argued that they hadn’t fully occupied the territory they had been given. There were still Canaanites that they hadn’t driven out. Joshua’s message to them was simply, “First Finish What The Lord Gave You To Do.”
A-pplication:
This is an age-old challenge for so many people. Some want to grow their business bigger, but they haven’t established it solidly enough yet to expand. Others want their son or daughter to be a doctor, but the child hasn’t even decided to go beyond their AA degree. Jesus said, “Which of you who wants to build a building doesn’t first sit down and count the cost to see whether or not there will be sufficient to build it?” (Luke 14:18, paraphrase). I work with so many people who have big dreams, but big dreams only become realities when the dreamer gets down to the business of first things first. Here’s the winning pattern. First, get the vision. Then make a plan. Then work the plan. Then realize the finished dream. But none of it happens if you don’t, “First Finish What The Lord Gave You To Do!”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
Lord, I want to always be a finisher! It’s fun to start, but it’s only a win if I finish what you gave me to do. With Your help, I will, “Finish What You Gave Me To Do!” Amen
