Don’t Believe Everything You Hear

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

1 Timothy 5:19

Do not entertain an accusation against an elder unless it is brought by two or three witnesses.

O-bservation:

St. Paul instructed Timothy, and all of us, “Don’t Believe Everything You Hear.” This instruction was given concerning leaders in the Church. Only if there are two or three witnesses can an accusation concerning a brother or sister be brought to a discussion and a decision made on their continued leadership.

A-pplication:

These are extremely difficult days to try and navigate through the world of social media and instant communication. Something can be suggested concerning a certain person, and before you know it it’s gone viral. In such challenging times it’s important to go back to the Word of God to remind ourselves of how it is to be done. In cases where an accusation has been made against a church leader, “Don’t Believe Everything You Hear.” However, if in time two or more witnesses come forward you must make a decision to judge things one way or another. The purpose in such a matter is to keep the church free of confusion and backbiting. However, remember to be slow to judgement.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

I’m asking today for heavenly wisdom. I’m also asking You to help me keep my mouth shut! My prayer is that you help me be a healing agent and not a divisive person in Your work. Amen
