Don’t Assume Anything
S. O. A. P.
Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Matthew 19:30
But many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first.
O-bservation:
Jesus talked to His disciples about those who had sacrificed much for the kingdom of God in this life. He said they would be remembered royally by their Heavenly Father on the other side. But then He said there would be some who thought that because they were always first on earth, they would be first in heaven. But Jesus said on that day the tables would be flipped.
A-pplication:
This was Jesus’ way of telling all of us, “Don’t Assume Anything.” Now don’t get me wrong. Jesus promised me that if I would believe in His name, I would be saved. So I believe I’m going to live with Him forever in heaven when I die. But I’m not arrogant about it or anything else. I’m grateful for His sacrificial death on the cross and resurrection from the grave so that by His grace I am forgiven. But I’m not operating as though I’m some great Christian, or that the Lord owes me anything. I believe that’s what Jesus was talking about in this verse. If we’re not going to live a humble grateful life on this side of heaven, then “Don’t Assume Anything” as it relates to having some high position in heaven someday. For “The first will be last and the last will be first!”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
How very thankful I am this AM for Your kindness to me. Thank You, Lord, for forgiving me of my sin and preparing a place for me in heaven someday. I want to do Your will until You call me home. Amen
