Clean Things Up Before You Leave

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

Numbers 31:2

“Take vengeance on the Midianites for the Israelites. After that, you will be gathered to your people.”

The Midianites had been the chief instigators of enticing the people of Israel into great sin. The Moabites were also involved and would be dealt with at a later time. Earlier in this same book, in chapter 25, the Israelite men indulged in sexual immorality and then the double sin of idolatry. Israel had already been judged, but before he was taken into heaven God said, “Clean Things Up Before You Leave.”

This is not unlike Joshua saying to the people of Israel, “Choose You This Day Whom You Will Serve.” He was at the end of his life and the Israelites who had crossed over into the worship of idols had to make a decision. They did decide to come back to the Lord. When I was a young boy and was going out to play, my mother would say to me, “Clean Things Up Before You Leave.” The idea here is to leave the place better than you found it originally. If our life’s journey is in the early stages, middle stages, or late stages, it’s always better at each juncture to leave things better than you found them.  Moses obeyed the Lord in this most difficult of tasks before he was taken to heaven. Our jobs are never really completed until we see Jesus one day, face to face. Just remember to, “Clean Things Up Before You Leave.”

Dear Jesus,

This AM I am reminded that the main work of we “Followers Of Jesus” is keeping things is good shape until You return. Help me to always leave things better than I found them going in. Amen
